...and we have lift off

straight up he went - into the sky...

i was so excited to see the great blue again today... it'd been some time since i'd been back to my little lake. the goslings have grown - can i call them tweens now? they are still adorable, but no longer little fluff balls... boo! the ducks were quacking away as usual...

then i turned around and lo and behold, there he stood... the blue heron... perfectly still in the water... hoping to catch lunch.

i crept forward - he didn't move... i inched closer... he concentrated on the water. i dared to get closer still... he allowed me to... i snapped to my heart's content - until suddenly a sound startled him and he shot straight up like nobody's business - a rocket, right out of the water. all i could think was "lift off... we have lift off..." and i knew it would be my blip for the day no matter how much i might like the other shots i'd taken... ya know how that goes?
