Tense Skating

Today has been all about the kids and even though I've recently passed another decade, I unashamedly include myself in the category from time to time. The plan was to spend the morning in Colchester, visiting the Castle Museum followed by a spell in the castle park with the new play area, a picnic lunch in Highwoods country park and then more play in the woods at the fabulous new play areas. Oh and in case you're wondering, today is a non-pupil day for the local school.

In the end, we did all this and more, but plans were changed at the last minute, when the forecast was for rain in the afternoon, much better to spend that time in the castle. So playing in the woods was moved to the morning. And so it was.

We visited the wildlife pond too, and saw lots of waterlife including a gazillion tadpoles, water boatmen, a duck, a moorhen and this surprisingly beautiful pond skater. I had to lie face down on the decking and hang arms over the edge, with the camera suspended just above the water to capture this shot and very pleased with it I am too.
