Stevinus A
My viewing of the moon tonight was brief, in between showers I dodged out with the camera- the bog Obsy too big for a dash and I don't want to get nasty rain drops on those all important mirrors!
I noticed something new, a crater which I knew wasn't crater Tycho-in that it had similar white 'rays' emanating from the crater centre, but was on the right hand side in the sliver of lit moon surface. Due to the fact that we only see one side of the moon (tidally locked being the technical name) I knew it must be something else. In fact it turns out to be a crater called 'Stevinus A'. Its approximately 8km across and alongside a few other craters has those amazing gleaming bright rays. I find it amazing what can be seen with the naked eye or even binoculars, can't wait for more moon through the scope when it stops raining though.
So much for getting away from revision for my planetary science exam on Monday...
