La Plaza - Feria

Every Wednesday and Saturday there's a market in Feria's Plaza. It's nothing like those wonderful French markets you get selling vegetables and fruit, cheese, fish and meats etc. No, this market is tiny, sells clothes, shoes and a hardware stall and there are two vegetable stalls. Sometimes we get bags and jewellery, sweets and dried fruits, if we're lucky. But it's when everyone meets up for a bit of gossip swapping.

So this is La Plaza. The market is at the far end, if you can see it! Straight ahead is the church of St Bartholomew, patron saint of the village. The tower fell down during the great Lisbon earthquake and was rebuilt in a completely different style from the rest of the building. Not sure when it was last painted, probably when they rebuilt the tower.

Then there's the castle beyond. You can see the castle from just about everywhere in Feria.
