Steppy Stones
Turned out to be quite a nice evening so we decided to go to Morpeth for a little walk along the river. We came to these 'Steppy Stones' & I learned something about Morpeth that I didn't know, thanks to some new signs which have been put up to reveal some of Morpeth's hidden gems. Apparently Morpeth was once home to Admiral Lord Collingwood who was credited along with Horatio Nelson with defeating Napoleon's French fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. His garden was close to these stepping stones, now the only ones remaining of seven sets of stepping stones across the River Wansbeck.
