John Cleese

A spur of the moment decision as I got back into Glasgow tonight to go and see John Cleese at the Royal Concert Hall.

Despite creating a huge body of work and being highly successful, he finds himself in his 70's having to go on tour to fund his divorce settlement under Californian law of $20 million to his third wife. That works out at about $3,700 for each day of marriage when everything was paid for during the marriage anyway. It seems very wrong.

But it was an interesting evening talking amongst other things about his parents, his writing partner Graham Chapman and bits of insight into some of his favourite clips from The Frost Report, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and A Fish Called Wanda.
