Kaiserslautern, Hauptfriedhof (Main Cemetery)
Went to a funeral in Kaiserslautern today and came by the final resting place of Fritz Walter and his wife Italia.
Fritz Walter was an outstanding German football player. He was born 1920 in Kaiserslautern and died 2002 in the nearby town Enkenbach-Alsenborn. He is buried on the Kaiserslautern cemetery.
In his time with the German national team, he won 61 caps and scored 33 goals.
Playing for the 1. FCK he made 327 goals in 384 plays.
International teams had repeatedly offered him hefty sums, but with support from his wife he always declined in order to stay at home, to play for his home town, the national team and "Chef" (=boss) Herberger.
It was his dream to see the World Cup 2006 in "his" town Kaiserslautern as the town had not been selected in the smaller tournament of 1974, but it was denied with his death. But on the fourth year anniversary of his death on June 17, 2006, the United States played Italy in Kaiserslautern and a minute of silence was observed in his memory.

Kaiserslautern is very proud of him. The football stadium is named after him.
See the red devils on the grave? That's because the Kaiserslautern players are called the "Red Devils".
