Pocket-Sized Park

The rectangular plot of land is accessed to the street by one narrow alley and is surrounded on all four sides by the back yards of adjacent houses. I heard about it last night and looked in today, after living three blocks from it for over twenty years without knowing it existed. Forty years ago, one neighbor willed the plot to the city, and in recent years, the city sold it to the local community association for one dollar, which in turn developed it as you see it here. They're calling it a bird sanctuary, but I have no idea how well that's going, except that a few bird houses are fixed to the trees. Some trees were cut down and used to define the log paths.

Lucky neighbors, to have a little park in their back pocket!
