Good Day Sunshine

It's such a shame when you pick a wedding day in flaming June for a romantic beachside marriage, and the weather conspires to be extra cold and grey.

Thus it was today at South Queensferry for the marriage of Amy and JP, the erstwhile managers of the cafe where I had my breakfast coffee every morning while I lived at the castle.

However despite the temperature, it was a very happy affair out there on the shingle with the backdrop of the bridge and the Forth.

A Humanist wedding brings joyfulness, informality and guest participation into the ceremony, with the couple facing us and the service written by themselves. There were no hymns, but the guests sang Good Day Sunshine by the Beatles with much laughter in the absence of any glimmer of sun.

The bride looked radiant, and the kilted groom looked like the cat who had got the cream: and so he has because Amy is beautiful, good natured and eternally cheerful.

His Lordship and I send them both our very best wishes for a long and happy marriage. They do make a lovely couple.
