Yakuza

The strangest thing I've learned about the Yakuza since I came to Japan is that you can buy magazines detailing the latest goings on and hot gossip surrounding your favorite clan. Amazingly, the magazines are freely available at newsagents and even include interviews with and photos of the highest ranking members. You don't really expect organized crime to be so open do you?
