Wee Johnny leading out the teams today
This was a match for the fans played by the fans LIVING THE DREAM
.
BIDDING has come to an end for our Play for The Sons fans match ? many, many thanks to everyone who took part - we can now reveal each team line-up together with their ?celebrity? manager!
Everyone who successfully came through the online auction will be at Strathclyde Homes Stadium on Saturday June 4th and it?s an event that is free to come along and watch. A perfect way to spend a summer?s afternoon!
OK, here we go and as is customary, we?ll start with the ?home? team.
Leading and guiding this fine bunch of lads will be none other than Sons legend Craig Brittain.
?Britzo? was a fine ambassador for Dumbarton Fc during his term as a ?Son?. He left to join Beith Juniors in January 2009 after eleven and a half years as a DFC stalwart ? signing on at Boghead Park in 1997.
With over 300 appearances for Dumbarton, the wee man can truly be considered a Sons Great and if there was a Hall of fame for DFC players, he would surely be an inductee!
And in typical fashion, Craig was delighted to help out with the fans match, immediately saying yes to the request for his services.
Home Team Squad - Gold Strips ? Andy Scott, Scott Mackie, Robert Faulds, Jordan Brownlee, Iain MacPhee, Alec Darroch, Tom ?Shakehands? McAllister, Simon Barrow, Paul Duffy, Craig Campbell, Chris Whitefield, Alex Stewart.
For the ?away? team, another living Dumbarton FC legend will be in charge. Step forward Lawrie Williams!
Lawrie is one of the few Sons players to have been awarded a testimonial and in 1978 a Rangers/Celtic select arrived at Boghead to honour the popular goalkeeper.
He joined DFC in the 1969/70 season and was a key member of the famous team that captured the (old) second division league title in 1971/72.
A true folk hero!
His ?team? for the fans match will consist of the following fine body of men :
White Strip ? Joe McCaughey, Sean Bangs, Alan Smith, Andy Hosie, Andrew McCulloch, Andy Mackie, David Ferguson, Gary McMurtrie, Allan Clarke, Allan Kennedy, Bryan McMurtrie
A GREAT DAY WAS HAD BY ALL AND I WAS ASKED TO TAKE SOME PICS FOR THE TRUST
