32..that's the magic number
Big event time - Mossley Fair! It only visits for a couple of days twice a year and it's a big tradition for me, my girls and everyone in Mossley.
The anticipation starts when the posters go up around town a few weeks before... The anticipation is not about what rides will be there (they are always the same because the ground is very small so it's two 'big' rides and a few small ones - teacups, cars and an up in the air one)
..No, the pondering is all about "Will I be be big enough for.."The Sizzler" and the "Smile n Ride"
And tonight, Evie was big enough for the 'Smile n Ride'...So that's it! She's done it. All my girls are now officially off the baby rides and on the big ones.
I had to go with them on the big rides (which I love anyway!) and they were so happy and so chuffed.
But for me it was a bit sad as well...no 'Super Fast Cars' or 'Teacups' for them anymore. Contemplated having another baby...but do I want to be going on the fast rides till I'm 50? :)
In a few years, Jeanne will want to go to the fair on her own and meet her mates....then a couple of years later Mossley Fair will be 'rubbish' for her and she'll never go again.
As I sat on the Sizzler with them, I realised that it was the 32'nd time I'd been to the fair with my girls...it really is a right of passage for Mossley children.
Baby rides, children rides, proper rides, going on their own, thinking its's naff.
32 times but I think tonight was the only time it has been a warm night!
It was glorious - the only odd thing was the choice of songs (usually it's Europop in our ears as we are spun around) tonight it was (quite aptly for me tonight) 'What becomes of the broken hearted?' and 'Ben' and 'My Girl' very odd...like one of those 60 / 70's complilation records had been stuck on!
"What becomes of the broken-hearted
Who had love that's now departed?
I know I've got to find,
Some kind of peace of mind,
I'll be searching everywhere,
Just to find someone to care.
I'll be looking everyday,
I know I'm gonna find a way.
Nothings gonna stop me now,
I'll find a way somehow.
I'll be searching everywhere..."
