Food Stars
I think of them as "food stars," but even if they're not really famous, the management staff of or local co-op are making good things happen. I came across this shoot by accident; probably for a magazine article. They are standing at the entrance of the new building, which originally was a bank. It's about five times the size of the existing store and the services will go well beyond what is offered now. There will be classes in canning and pickling, frozen fish and meats, prepared foods, a rooftop farm, and a lot of other things I've been hearing about. It's exciting, because the co-op's been in business for forty years and I've been a member since 1989. Two of the folks posing for the camera are "old timers" and the rest are (at least to me) pretty new to the scene. It's a talented, professional team and the building's a dream, and so I have the feeling that Mariposa will soon become one of the finest food co-ops in the United States. It's set to re-open this Fall. Stay tuned for more co-op blips!
Note, June 2: I learned that the photo was for the annual report of an organization that gives funding for the improvement of local businesses. The posers were not impressed by their portrait.
