Reflections on Memorial Day
I hate war but have an enormous respect for all of the young men and women through the years who have fought and died for their country. I love my country but recognize that we are not perfect. I feel many of the wars and "conflicts" we have been involved in through the centuries were, at the best, misguided, and at the worst immoral. But our brave soldiers were serving their country and laying down their lives because they believed that by their efforts, people, like me, could keep the freedom that was given to all of us through the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution and its Amendments. The freedom to stand up and say, "No more wars" The freedom to disagree with government actions, the freedom to protest. Every time we send young people off to fight and die, they go, believing that they are fighting for their country and fighting to maintain our way of life. So no matter whether I agree or not, it does not alter the fact that each soldier is a hero.
I wish that we honor and remember them each and every day - and I pray, that soon, we can bring every one of them back home.
