Javelina

This young fellow is one of a small herd of about a dozen that were vandalizing the golf course. They dig for grubs in the evening and mess up the turf. You see, they do not replace their divots, which is standard golf course etiquette. They are guilty of bad manners. I chased them off with my golf cart. Surely the scattering will only be temporary.

When javelina get older, they have a gray-white band across the shoulders.

Javelinas are not pigs. they are a breed of peccary. Among other names, they are also called stink pigs because they smell so bad. They are nearly blind and have a reputation for being stupid. However, they were smart enough to dig up six small hesperaloe in our yard. That caused us to raise our walls and install a fence for our back yard.
