The New Victoria Hospital

I always wonder why the word "new" is incorporated into something like a building although I suppose it could end up being rather quaint - like Edinburgh's New Town being built in the 1700's.

This is the New Victoria Hospital which is across the road from the (old) Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow. There was much debate about what was going to replace the Infirmary (where I used to spend many a happy hour reading a book on a Sunday morning after Saturday's rugby injuries) but this shiny new building is I believe an "Ambulatory Care and Diagnostic" unit - ACAD. I'm not sure what's actually being used for at the moment - I assume that various departments are transferring bit by bit.
