This lettuce, freshly washed by the rain* may look curiously metallic in black and white, but was truly scrumptiously green in our technicolour world. It also made for a very quick accompaniment to the barbecued lamb when I realised that veg were my responsibility.
A day of sorting stuff out (mainly while trying to find things that were lost) and baking. I have made a cake for Katherine to take into school tomorrow (it being her birthday and that being the done thing in these parts) which is some achievement given previous battles with unfamiliar flour and ovens. And this afternoon a sudden (as in over the course of 5 minutes) change from sunny blue sky weather, to a howling gale. Quite unexpected. The forecast thunder storms have come to nothing (so far).
*The rain, whilst very welcome for the farmers' parched fields, was too little to do any real good. We're due a soaking tomorrow, and again on Thursday, and I'm starting to get with the local view that rain is good, and endless days of blue skies are bad. Who'd have thought?
