When the kids are away...

Once the last bell of the day has rung and the students have poured out of school, the birds come out to play. Mostly sparrows and starlings looking for crumbs (of which there are always plenty).

Today I heard a fantail outside my office window so I whipped out with my camera at the ready. And there WAS a fantail - a wee black chap - but as so often happens with fantails, he wouldn't stay still long enough for me to take his photo. There were also some waxeyes playing in the cabbage trees, but no watter which side of the trees I moved to, they moved to the other.

In the end I had to be content with lots of photos of sparrows. I love the markings and colours on the back of this one - and of course he is so well set off against our purple verandah railings.
