Saying Goodbye
We have had a wonderful weekend in Sunderland, and the people in the North East are so friendly, thought I would just share our last few shots as we were preparing to leave for home this morning - back to the Midlands.
Top Left: Is not a very good shot of a Wind Turbine taken as we were zooming down the M62 @ 65mph - these Turbines for whatever reason, always cunjure up War of the Worlds for me (dont ask), do you know that us poor relations in the Midlands only have 2 pronged Wind Turbines (well thats all I spotted), yet in the North East they are growing them everywhere and they have 3 prongs !!
Top Right : A shot of the Hotels where we were staying (not all of them of course).
Bottom Left :Roker Lighthouse - The lighthouse at the end of roker pier was built in 1902 to mark the Sunderlands north breakwater. The impressive 23 metre high tower is unpainted and its daymark is made up of different natrually coloured stone, the tower is white with 3 red bands and has a white painted lantern with a black roof and double gallery. At the time of the lighthouses construction, it was thought to be the most powerful port lighthouse in the country - today it flashes once every 5 seconds and is visible for 20 nautical miles - a fixed white light on the landward side is shown from a small window in the watchroom, below the lantern, day and night, for vessels leaving the port. The original lens is in storage in a local museum and has been replaced by several other lamps since 1976
Bottom Right : Roker Pier - This was the from our Hotel
