The Night Before the Race

Five hundred teams will compete in the Ski to Sea relay race from the Mount Baker ski area to the waterfront in Fairhaven tomorrow. It's one of the most popular annual events in Whatcom County.

The 100-mile course includes seven legs: cross-country ski, downhill ski or snowboard, running, road bike, canoe, mountain bike, and sea kayak.

C and I took M and Miss Annie to Squalicum Harbor this evening and saw the kayaks parked in readiness for the race. They are being guarded overnight by a local Boy Scout troop. We'll spend some time at the street fair in Fairhaven tomorrow before seeing M off on the Greyhound bus back to Seattle.
