Nelson Lakes National Park

NOTE: This is awfully similar to the blip posted by Kiwilizzie today. Here's why:

Last weekend while I was in Hokitika, kiwilizzie took a drive up to Lake Rotoiti in Nelson Lakes National Park. She took a great photo of a Tit that I was really envious of (as I'd only ever seen our native one in books). Today she suggested we go up there again.

I didn't manage any shots of birds, though there were plenty of various varieties to be heard.

Instead I took lots of photos of scenery. This shot is looking down on Lake Rotoiti from the top of the Mt Robert road. The left of the lake is known as West Bay, and that is where the mighty Buller River is born. What looks like a tiny arm towards the centre (and reality is a huge area) is Kerr Bay. The lake trails away to the right for quite some distance. Across the top of Kerr Bay you are looking down the Wairau Valley and the road to Blenheim and Picton.
