My tits are out
I am sitting here typing away with mixed emotions, I am so chuffed that today I watched all 4 great tit chicks emerge from the bird box and take their fist flying lesson, but on the other hand I am sad that this may be the last time I see them. Over the last 6 weeks I have watched 2 great tits check out my bird box and then fly back and forth with nest building materials. I then watched the male work continuously bringing food home for mum to be. After standing in the cold, rain, wind and sun for many hours day after day I finally heard the little chirp of the baby chicks. Together, the adults worked in harmony bringing bugs back for the chick, fattening them up to reach this day when they finally fly out for the first time.
I cant believe how lucky I was to decide that I would have some lunch first before going out into the garden with my camera. It didnt take long before the first would stick his head out further and further, then there was no turning back. One by one they plucked up courage to take their first flight. This one in the pic flew the wrong way and nearly landed on me, I thought I was going to need to catch it, but it did make next doors garage roof.
What to do now? Will they come back? If I see great tits in the garden will I now they were the ones I watched for hours and hours?
All I can say is Mother Nature is Fab
