Glenconner Park

Nice weather this morning then back to normal this afternoon. Whatever happened to summer?

This is part of Glenconner Park in Glasgow. This particular bit was once a bowling green but now seems to be a graveyard for traffic cones.

The park was donated by the Victorian industrialist Sir Charles Tennant. He owned what was the biggest chemical factory in the world, boasting the highest chimney anywhere. He also owned this strip of green park which was his gift to the City on the condition that it remained green space.

In recent years Glasgow council have tried to reverse this in order to initially build a childcare centre. It was opposed by the Glenconner family and the local group Friends of Glenconner.

I haven't heard of any developments for some years now but the park remains and the football pitches are still in use.
