Park Guell
Hot and sunny day so we decided to explore Mr Gaudi's work up at the Park Guell. Amazing sculptures and mosaics and terrrific colours. The ubiquitous Japanese tourists were there in force, but there was plenty of room for us all! The sky was cloudless and blue and it was so beautiful, following little pathways though shaded tunnels cut into the hillside, with arches and columns and splashes of bright colours everywhere.
Unfortunately there was no straightforward way of getting to the Park and then to the Sagrada Familia (Gaudi's famous unfinished cathedral) from our hotel. It required two buses and the underground, but I managed it, with my mother being a very doubting Thomas, and suggesting taxis at the drop of a hat! She did incredibly well and after getting a lift to the top of one of the towers at the cathedral, she managed to walk down 426 steps of the spiral staircase! When we got to the bottom, we decided that we had proved our point, and would get a taxi back to the hotel, after all!
Wonderful meal in the evening, lots of olives, peppers and garlic and a plentiful supply of red wine. Just what a holiday should be like!
