Grains of sand 2; Morar
These are grains of sand from the beach at Morar, between Arisaig and Mallaig on the west coast of Scotland.
The grains were photographed on a discecting microscope in the lab and are contrasted with a regular photo of how the sand looks.
I've done this before with sand from Tentsmuir beach in Fife on the east coast. There the sand is usual sand colour; brown-ish and you can see that in the huge variery of grain colours from that sand.
The sands at Morar are known for being very white and that is clearly seen in this picture, with the majority of the grains transparant or white.
I'm no obsessive sand collector but do have a collection of small samples of sand from the past 25 years or so. I may do a similar thing with the most interesting ones and link them to a picture of the source beach, like I have done here.
