Historic Union Station, Ogden, Utah

Continuing with my railroad theme of May 23rd. Ogden's Union Station was a major stop over between San Francisco, California and Omaha, Nebraska during the golden age of rail travel. Numerous passenger trains came through here everyday. It is on Wall Avenue and 25th Street. Passengers would come out of the front door of the station, and straight up 25th Street. Consequently, you could get anything on 25th Street--literally! There were clubs, hotels, entertainments, restaurants, and a variety of stores on the street. When rail travel started to dwindle, the street became very run down, and mostly was home to several bars. During the 1980's and 1990's a few brave souls decided it was time to renovate 25th Street and clean it up. Now it is part of the historic district of Ogden, and is where the yarn shop that I work at is located. It still has its early 1930's look and charm about it, and has been used in several movies as a result. The TV series, "Everwood," was shot mostly on 25th Street, right across the street from the yarn shop. Many mornings coming to work we were greeted by Everwood crews. Now, its very charming and very historic.
