Wild in the country

A big boat in a little lock

Went for my now habitual walk along the canal this afternoon, heading off towards Stourport where the canal meets the mighty Severn. This couple had just come up from the river, and embarking on their tour of the Worcs and Staff canal. Some of the locks on this canal seem rather wee, especially if one has done the big stairs of double locks on the Grand Union. And it was a jolly big boat - 70 feet.

People on narrow boats are always so friendly, and the capt'n was glad to tell me all about his adventures. Plus he was happy to let a little local fellow join in with the windy-handle thing that lets the water in and out of the lock. Happy navigating!
