Death Comes to the Meadows
This is the bleeding heart of one of the biggest of the Meadow's cherry trees, blown down yesterday roots and all.
What a shame to see it lying there exposed and dying amongst its neighbours, with all its fresh newly opened leaves already beginning to wither.
Another young tree will no doubt be planted in its place, but it will be a long time before it gains the grandeur of its fallen predecessor.
I was out at 6am with my camera hoping to blip yet another tree, one third of which was missing, the broken limb having been ripped off the trunk by a JCB to prevent any injuries to passers by.
It was only when I accessed Blipfoto later that I realised I had been beaten to it by Marchmont whose blip it was yesterday.
Two of the four paths crossing the meadows were blocked by tree falls and the other paths a mass of smaller branches.
It was an awesome sound yesterday evening with the wind catching the new leaves on the huge trees outside the Dower House, and forcing the branches to bend at ridiculous angles.
Since moving into this flat, I have been negligent about inviting my friends to visit.
I can't explain why, but with a retired husband in situ behind his door, I have felt a little constrained about giving out invitations.
He would be the last person to object to my socialising, given that the said door is a sound barrier to household goings on, but anyone out there with a retired husband at home will know how it is having someone on site 24/7. It seems to inhibit.
However this morning I had two friends for coffee. I haven't seen them since the move, and it's ages since the flat has been so polished. I think they liked it despite their being blown about crossing the Meadows.
His Lordship brushed up well and was on his best behaviour. His door was opened long enough for him to greet them.
Good impressions count, don't you think?
