A relic...

C is inspecting closely a ventilation system which was installed in the building in 1929. The plan was that it would suck hot air out of the top of the area, and cycle it via the basement before exhausting it through a tower.

It was never needed, and never used, and when the building was rewired in the 1960's it was decided just to isolate it and close the door.

And there is sits from year to year, in splendid isolation, with only the occasional passing breeze causing the vanes on the circulating fan to slowly turn.

Maybe C will grow up to be an engineer - but at the age of 5 he is already promising musician and a keen sports player.
