Marathon
We went to the allotment this morning, but couldn't cross the road for about half an hour until the field of marathon runners thinned out a bit. Then once we got to the allotment there was a heavy and persistent shower of rain. Came home and reconciled ourselves to the unappealing task of cleaning up the flat....during which the sun shone brightly outside.
There were all sorts running the marathon; all ages, shapes and sizes, all levels of fitness (and un-fitness) and a fascinating variety of running 'styles'. There were runners wearing club t-shirts from Kilkenny, Bristol, Bradford, Southville (also Bristol?). There were people running for Barnados, Amnesty, Cystic fibrosis, RNLI, Macmillan nurses, Alzheimers research, Oxfam, etc etc. I particularly liked these two who were running in their yellow "Scottish Sikhs" T-shirts and carrying a huge Saltire with their motto on (something about "Proud to be a Scottish Sikh" I think). That kilt may be in the Singh tartan - they do have one of their own. It was only when I looked at the photo later that I noticed how the thistle/saltire emblem on their flag echos the form of their Khanda symbol; clever, that.
