Box (Turtle) Lunch

Baby female (yes, I peeked - it is the shape of the bottom shell that is the give away) Florida box turtle (Terrapene carolina bauri). Really a tortoise. She is about the size of half a tennis ball. Her coloring is in transition. She will be darker all over.

There have always been box turtles on my property. I am thrilled as they are cuddly - not - but they are fascinating and an endangered species. I hope she sticks around, but she may be out to find her own territory.

Thank goodness they are slow. I am leaving the fast animals to Berelaxed who is so superb at getting their portraits (even if she does use stuffed ones).
