Back to the drawing board
Went to watch Cardiff City play Reading in the second leg of the Championship play-offs. The first leg finished 0-0 so both teams had everything to play for.
Before this match, Cardiff were two wins away from playing premier league football next year. A win tonight and a win against Swansea in the play-off final would have opened the gates to the promised land.
Unfortunately it was not to be. Despite Cardiff dominating the first half, they imploded and lost 3-0. It felt like relegation.
On paper, Cardiff should have won an automatic promotion spot this year. They had investment, talent and an experienced manager driving them forward.
So where did it all go wrong? The opinions are numerous but consistent: too many loan players, players playing out of position, a poor defence, an unbalanced team shape, poor game tactics, and a lack of true team spirit, hunger and grit.
So it's a tenth year in the championship for Cardiff City next year.
The icing on the cake tonight came at half time. Already 2 nil down I went and bought 2 beers and a pie. I wasn't allowed to take the beers back to my seat and I choked on a piece of meat in the pie.
A good night all round!
