Democracy?...what democracy?

Yesterday was election day. Three elections in Northern Ireland: NI Assembly, local councils and the Referendum on the Alternative Vote.

The picture shows a selection of leaflets and flyers for a bunch of parties, people and a system that I did not vote for. As usual, my vote counted for practically nothing and people with nothing positive to contribute were elected into office. To make matters worse the great public decided that my vote should continue to remain meaningless by rejecting AV. According to the Voter Power Index under the current system my vote is worth 0.019 of a vote. AV makes very little difference, but it would at least move in the right direction. And who in their right mind would vote for Jim Allister??? (and yet they did...)
