In Between Days

Books

It's not that easy when you have the items you want to photograph (books) but no setting. They don't stand up by themselves so I enlisted the help of Optimus Prime and Wall-E.

It's not that easy to choose books. I've mentioned before that I don't read nearly as much as I would like to and have a habit of not finishing them. I intend to put this right one day, but I've been thinking that for many years now! I picked these books for the following reasons...

Ringworld by Larry Niven is what I would have to class as my favourite book due to it holding that position for many years of my youth. I have read better books since but at the time this is the book which gripped and amazed me and got me into science fiction. Other worlds and ideas only limited by imagination. Proper science fiction which sticks to the rules, where travelling to distant stars takes many years and there is no sound in space. The main character in this book is Louis Wu. I wouldn't say my Louis was named after him but there is probably some link there!

Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami was my holiday read in France a couple of years ago. I've not read a book quite like it and it is one which I still wonder about today. It's full of riddles but  I can't claim to have solved any of them. It's not for everyone - just ask L.

One for my Baby by Tony Parsons. I like Tony Parsons books. Very easy to read and identify with. He knows which strings to pull but as a reader you don't mind. I particularly like One for my Baby and this has a lot to do with the Hong Kong links running through the book. Hong Kong is where my dad was from and a place I hope to visit one day. To see where he was born and where part of my roots lie. One day.

Thinking on I should have put a bit of Bill Bryson in there. I love a bit of travel writing. Bryson's Notes from a Small Island would be highly recommended by me to anyone.

And that's it! Well done for reading the above waffle and getting this far!
