The Crying Bird

Limpkins are restricted to tropical America, breeding as far north as Southern Georgia. They mostly eat apple snails, which they extract without breaking the shell; they will take small frogs, tadpoles and aquatic insects sometimes as well. They are mainly active at night and their eerie wailing, that sounds like a person in distress, is a common sound in the Florida swamps and wetlands, hence their nickname, the crying bird.
