Sheepish

These are Volendam sheep. The houses in the background are traditional Volendam houses. Thus coaches with hundreds of Japanese tourists stop here every day for a visit. I was there for business only.

Apart from being a traditional fishing village and a tourist hub, there is another feature, of which part of the country is very proud and the other part would like to push the village in the sea to never see it again, and that's Volendam music, folk music (sort of). One of the more well-known bands from Volendam was our Eurovision Song Contest entry, which proudly made us last (!) in the semi final. One of the other Volendam singers did tv commentary at de Eurovision, and that may well have been the dumbest and most idiotic commentary ever.

So, needless to say I am not the biggest fan of Volendam music. But the town is nice and the fish good.
