Abandonment
On a small patch of waste ground beside "our" wood stands this long abandoned steading. I have spoken to a man who was born here between the wars and was told that there was a small cottage and an outbuilding for storage, implements, etc. Given the size of the holding and the quality of the land, I cannot see how much of a living could have been made from it. The ground is now waste and covered in scrub and gorse with a substantial stand of Japanese Knotweed round the old buildings which are now totally ruinous.
On the plus side, the scrub provides a great haven for wildlife of all kinds and some garden flowers, lillies, daffodils and snowdrops have found new homes and are also thriving.
We were quite lucky to get round dry this morning as it has been an "if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes" sort of day. Right now, the sun is bright but the rain is coming in at a 45 degree angle with a blustery westerly breeze. Please Mr Weatherman, can we have some more decent weather, thank you.
