Burma VJ

I went to see the film Burma VJ this evening. A free showing in a function room in the local theatre.

An excellent film - equal parts shocking and inspiring - about the Burmese monks' uprising against the military regime in 2007. The film is as much about the brave video journalists who recorded the events, and managed to get the footage smuggled out of the country. One of them - "Joshua" - was on hand to answer questions at the end.

Since the uprising was brutally crushed, Burma hasn't been in our news so much. But political prisoners are still being tortured, and ethnic groups in the east of the country are still being slaughtered.
