globe artichoke...

So, in a further tale about our weekend houseguests (see yesterday for more info), one of them bought us three globe artichokes. How lovely, thought we.

Then we read how to cook them.

Then we spent an hour and three quarters preparing and cooking them, and also making a hollandaise sauce to accompany them.

Then we ate them. In about 4 minutes.

I don't want to sound ungrateful (I really don't, honest) but I'm not sure we'll be doing that again. The sauce was nice* but the artichokes I could take or leave, to be honest. Sorry.

But it was a good thing to have experienced...

* reminds me of a great phrase I heard today. The Dalai Llama met Mao, and his comment on Mao was 'he has beautiful thumbs' - damning by omission, p'raps?
