Goosander Family

Today's the day .................. for a swimming lesson

One consequence of the recent rain is that the River Kent is now full of water again - much more like the way it usually is at this time of year. This little goosander family was on a small island in the middle of the river beautifully camouflaged amongst the pebbles.

Mother Goosander started leading the way to the edge of the island and into the river. I watched the ducklings go with some trepidation because there was really quite a fast flowing current at this point and I felt sure they would be swept away.

But somehow they seemed to manage. In fact you might say they took to it - well - like ducks to water ....................
