On choosing the right path
At lunchtime I had a short walk to the Heavens with Isabelle before she caught the train back to University and the dreaded examinations. We often walk here and the paths are all well known to us, past the rope swing tree, through the buttercup meadow and follow on up little stream.
As we walked we talked a little about the direction she's taking and the choices she'll be making in a year or two. Her path is clear for now, two more years of study - ecology, biology and permaculture - then there are choices to be made and new paths to be found and followed.
But how do we know which is the right path to follow? Maybe there is no right path. Just many paths with their ups and downs, occasional fine views and bramble patches to stumble into. Or possibly there's no path going in the direction we want and we have to find our own way.
Or then again perhaps it's not so much the path itself that's right but the way we walk it, the people we meet and the unexpected places it takes us which all help to make us feel like we chose the right path in the first place.
So follow your nose but pay attention along the way, take advantage of opportunities that arise and enjoy the adventure.
