Fires!

After blipping early yesterday and saying we had no calls, we had one in the afternoon, and it was even a fire! Well, there were no flames, just smoke and smouldering! It was in a girls house and she had a pet snake in a glass enclosure. The heat mat that was on the bottom of the tank, underneath some sawdust had started to get really hot and was making the sawdust smoulder. The girl was asleep at the time and luckily woke, only to find the house full of smoke and not knowing where it was coming from. She had a smoke alarm in her house but the battery had gone flat so it wasn't working. We took the tank outside and took the snake out of it, luckily it survived and wasn't venomous!

Kaz, Nik and I went to the movies and ended up seeing 'Source Code' with Jake Gyllenhaal in it. It was really good! Pirates doesn't come out until next week!

Today has been pretty busy! We cooked a roast for all of the station today, pork and lamb! There are eight firefighters at this station and two trucks so the Teleboom went out in the morning to go and get the meat and vegies and while they were out, we got a call to power lines down. As we were nearly there the Teleboom then got a call to a house fire just around the corner from where we were! It turned out that they were both related. The reason the power lines were down at our call was because a car had hit the power pole and dislodged two high voltage cables and caused a power surge and outages to the area, including the house that was on fire that the Teleboom went to! The hard wired smoke alarm had caught on fire in the house because of the power surge!

We finished our call before the Teleboom so we ended up going to the supermarket!! Lunch was a bit late but was delicious!! We had another couple of calls for the day, including another small fire at a footy club rooms caused by them leaving a heater on from yesterday and a towel falling onto it!

Kaz finished her course then came to the station and picked me up and we drove over to Cheryl's house to pick up Spence. Kaz's sister was also there with one of her kids so we all had tea together! It was lovely! We then drove back to the fire station to pick up my car and then drove home!!
