As promised...
After deleting Badger yesterday in favour of the Blue Tit chick, I promised I would blip him today.
What a poser!
Also...
Today I took mum on her annual pilgrimage to her family's grave.
We went to the Fernie Point to Point at Dingley, on the A427, just to the east of Market Harborough, and allowed an extra half hour beforehand.
The tiny church is in the grounds of Dingley Hall which was built in Tudor times, and extended with an Italianate wing in 1680. The majority of older properties in Dingley were built for the estate's workers.
The local golden Ironstone was used extensively for building much of the village, including the Hall and the church, and also chosen by my mother for the grave,
I never knew her parents who are buried here, or indeed her older brother Thomas, (Bo) who is also commemorated on the headstone, who died during the 2nd World War aged 20, on his first mission over Normandy, France as a rear gunner with the Royal Airforce Volunteer Reserve in February 1943. Mum recalls, aged 19, having to break the news to her mother, who was in hospital at the time, suffering from cancer, she died 2 months later. Mum's father died suddenly 6 years after.
Sadly the Church was locked, but looking round the beautifully tended churchyard, the most striking thing is the age at which people died. The majority being only in their 40s and 50s, and some very much younger.
Sobering Indeed.
