Roadtrip Day 1: Auckland to Wellington

Petone Pier, Lower Hutt, Wellington

First day of our trip consisted of a very long drive from Auckland to Wellington. Bluesheep drove part of the way which helped (and he even managed to stay on the correct side of the road the whole time!).

Very few camping options around Wellington so we stayed at a place up near Lower Hutt. This was the view at sunset a short drive from our campground.

Not many options in this area. Like all Top 10s it has good facilities, but the tent camping area is just an open grassy patch in the back. The "park" is also in a weird industrial neighborhood. Not highly recommended but if you want to be close to Wellington you don't have much of a choice (except for one funky option which I'll mention later on my blip for our day through Wellington at the end of the trip).
