on form for [morethan]human
What if we thought we could turn up to our day with 20-30 percent more energy. That would be something, wouldn't it?
The wonderful Helen had presented me with Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz's book On Form for my sabbatical, which argues that to turn up to our days with energy, we need to take care of the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. We do this through recognising the oscillatory nature of our lives; the trouble is we try to live linearly. We ask, How much can I get done today?, rather than asking, How can I bring energy to what I need to do?
Try this experiment tomorrow. If you are engaged in an activity for several hours, notice how, after an hour, your energy starts to wane, and after 90 minutes, you begin to struggle to focus, become more irritable, and grow increasingly insensitive. So take a break, have a drink, some fruit, (whistle or yodel a moment or two) and see if you don't come back to the task with restored energy.
Well, it's worth trying.
