Oak before Ash
Oak before Ash, in for a splash
Ash before Oak, in for a soak!
Apparently in some other countries the splashing and soaking in the rhyme are the other way round!
The tree at the foot of the lane is an Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) which is still in tight bud. The Oak is the young tree on the left in the hedge in full leaf. The lane leads through a hamlet to the lower section of our main village. The ploughed fields on the hill have been sown with maize which has yet to show itself. The house up on the right is very modern and hasn't been completed yet. But my favourite is the Cow Parsley which lines the lanes at this time of year. The recent rain has given it a battering and so now it is past its best.
