home again home again jiggedy-jig

it was a bit jiggedy-jig landing today, two little girls in front of me squealed at every bump, which was amusing.
Here you can see three, maybe four, countries all at once. I checked-in online last night to make sure I got a window seat on the right side of the plane so I could see all this. There were too many clouds and general moisture around for really good views though. The best journey in this direction I've had so far was this time of year two years ago flying home from Sofia. It was an absolutely magnificant view - I had a map open in front of me and could tick off the places as we passed over.
Today I left Transylvania in the grey and rain, drove over the Carpathian pass in the snow, got to Bucharest in the rain.....landed in Switzerland in the glaring sun and heat of summer. I was a bit overdressed.....
I also had a slight moment of panic as I queued to get through passport control and couldn't find my passport anywhere! I then remembered putting it in my bag with my book...and that my book had fallen out of my bag between the boarding gate and the plane. So I was totally convinced that my passport was on the floor somewhre in Bucharest airport!! As I have dual nationality, I had another passport with me, so casually whipped that one out to get back into the country. When I was on the train I was looking for a hanky to wipe my nose (that was doing it's usual "back in Switzerland snot and blood" thing - who knows why it does that but I'm so used to it now, I've learnt to ignore it) anyway, I felt something passporty in a pocket I didn't know I had and lo and behold, there it was! At that worry for nothing!
All in all, it was a great trip, very productive workwise and fun otherwise too. Looking forward to doing more work with those people and maybe expanding our focus to Turkey and Georgia too (which I'm pushing for because I want to go back to the Causcasus!!)
Here endeth the essay. Go and look at my back blips now.
