Father and Son Flyfishing in the Rockies
Gloriously warm weather in the Rocky Mountains today coaxing the snow at the headwaters to melt, filling the river with cool, pure rushing water, and drawing the anglers to collect their flies, waders, and perfectly balanced, delightfully lightweight poles to their favorite fishing holes. I love this photo. I think I could right a book about this photo: how this father is showing his son where the fish like to lie in wait in the eddies, currents and pools; how to dry the fly by casting to and fro once, twice, three times; how to place the fly perfectly, quietly on the water;s surface and patiently allow the current to move it downstream; how the father learned these things from his father, and his father learned them from his father, and back and back through the generations to when flyfishing was more about food for survival than for sport.
I love these days and these things, visions of life and living, and am happy to share them.
