ol' south
pancake house, that is. In Fort Worth there aren't many establishments that remain open round the clock. But lucky for us, Ol' South Pancake House is one of them. An institution in FtW since 1962.
Brian and I woke up at like 4:00am. Actually, I had a nightmare and woke him up. We turn-on a bed-side light and talked for a bit. The conversation turned to experiences when you're wake early, excited for the day and can't go back to sleep; ie: christmas morning, first day of vacation, morning of a road trip, etc. We quickly realized we were going to be up and awake for the day. What to do at 4:30 in the morning...PANCAKES! At first, I think the suggestion was a joke, but I was game. We threw on some clothes and stepped out into the crisp, dark morning air and headed south.
The place was practically empty when we arrived. We were warmly welcomed by Erik, our server, and Joyce , another server passing time rolling up silverware. By the time we had finished up, the place had already started to fill up with regulars and you could feel the pace of the morning quicken.
There is something wonderful about being up early when you have nothing to do, when you are in no rush. The blue light of dawn, turning a golden, warm yellow. Ah. life is beautiful. Enjoy your day!
cheers,
L
