the swan story

This is a sad day for the two black swans. The 6 babies were hatched and looked good. (the birth) Then the two juveniles from the birth in January 2011 started biting and chasing the new babies and four were killed. We did scoop up 2 live ones and took them to a bird shelter to live.

I feel this picture shows sadness. The juveniles have walked to another pond and seem content there.

Nature is not cruel, pitiless, indifferent. This is one of the hardest lessons for humans to learn. We cannot admit that things might be neither good nor evil, neither cruel nor kind, but simply callous -- indifferent to all suffering, lacking all purpose.
